Pansexual Support
Question:
This is probably a really stupid question, but do LGBT support groups include pansexuals? I am pansexual and heading off to college in a few years, and I'd like to be able to join a support group so I know I'm safe and accepted. Most colleges have LGBT groups. But will they accept someone who is pansexual? It just seems like the answer is "no"…I even tried to sign up for Trevorspace, but couldn't because my sexuality was not included. So, what do I do? Will I be accepted for being pansexual? Do people just not realize that it's a real thing?

Hi Aquaria!
Thanks so much for your letter to Ask Trevor. You bring up some great questions, and I so appreciate you bringing them up. I’m e-mailing TrevorSpace administrators right now about your concern.
On to the heart of your question: one of my closest friends in my college’s queer organization identified as Pan, so I can say for sure that it is accepted in at least some areas. In my experience I’ve found more-so that people are unfamiliar with the pansexual identity than a sense of unacceptance. Wherever you end up, know that we are here to best support you. Your pan identity is legitimate and beautiful, and there are many, many people who love you.
Thanks again for your letter- if you need us, please reach out through our lifeline, TrevorChat or the platform that works best for you!
