May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year’s theme is “Mind Your Health,” reminding all of us of the important influence our mental health has over our overall health and wellbeing. This subject is particularly important to us at The Trevor Project, and we want your support for this national awareness campaign.
Throughout this month Trevor will be participating in several Google+ Hangouts, and on May 8th, we will be collaborating to support Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day to raise awareness of the unique needs of young adults and emphasize the importance of support in helping youth build resilience. Turn your profile picture lime green to support the mission behind this day, and show that the mental health of all youth matters!
We know that in addition to the unsettling statistics about youth suicide, LGBTQ young people are at an even higher risk. To ensure that the challenges facing this group are addressed, we are looking forward to hosting our second briefing on Capitol Hill. This briefing will focus on the important role family acceptance plays in reducing suicide risk for LGBTQ youth, as well as the danger posed by harmful practices like conversion therapy.
During the coming weeks, stay tuned for more ways to participate, and for more information about our upcoming national briefing!
