Dear Trevor, For the past few years I have been depressed but lately it's gotten worse and I've been suicidal for almost a year. Despite medications and therapy nothing has seemed to work. Currently I am trying to get ECT done but I may have to wait a while for that. Every night I feel depressed and lonely. I don't want to talk to someone because it will just start to annoy people. Do you have any ideas of what I could do to make it more bearable until I can get treatment? Thanks, Alex
Signed,
Alex, 18, Portland OR

Hi Alex,

Have you discussed your lack of progress with your therapist? Also, if you do not feel you are experiencing progress with your current therapist, you could find another therapist. Therapy is a very intimate experience. The trust between the client and the therapist is essential. If you do not feel the rapport is strong enough, seeking another therapist makes sense.

Know, you can always call the Trevor lifeline at 1-866-4-U-Trevor, (1-866-488-7386) ,24 hours 7 days a week. If you feel you may act on suicidal thoughts, call 911 or get to the nearest hospital emergency room. In those dark moments, your immediate safety is crucial.

You may be able to find some online communities to reduce the sense of loneliness. Trevorspace, at www.trevorspace.org, is the Trevor Project's safe, online social networking site for LGBTQ young people ages 13 to 24 their friends and allies.

Alex, you are not alone. It took a lot of courage to reach out to us via your letter. Do not hesitate to call. We are here when you need someone to listen.
