ACCESS TO MENTAL HEALTH CARE

Certain laws create barriers for youth who want to access safe mental health care. Some of these, including age restrictions, parental permission requirements and lack of “doctor-patient confidentiality” can be especially big problems for LGBTQ youth. In some cases, these restricting laws can actually put them in danger. LGBTQ youth who are seeking care may be dealing with sensitive issues including coming out, relationship issues with their family or friends, rejection, or even violence and abuse.
