Ambassadors Bring Families Together

The San Francisco Ambassadors of The Trevor Project hosted their 2nd annual Trevor Holiday Skate at Union Square December 2012. Trevor’s San Francisco Ambassador Co-Chair, Rebecca Chekouras told us how the annual skating event began:

“We'd been working with GALA, the Safeway LGBT employee resource group, and wanted to offer a Trevor/Safeway event to families in the area.  Safeway underwrites the Union Square Holiday Ice Rink every year and we thought it was a great fit.  In addition, Safeway had a cookie and hot chocolate station and gave all our guests a gift bag when they left.” To emphasize the magic of their Union Square venue, the Trevor Ambassadors produced a pre-skate program of up-and-coming young competitive figure skaters.

“The skaters were fabulous, and in their glitter costumes and makeup they lent such a wonderful air of glamor to the event. When the program was over, they mingled with the guests, helping little kids and encouraging everyone,” said Rebecca. “The annual skate event sends a positive message at the right time of year that all families and children deserve respect.”

Trevor Ambassadors are key volunteer groups in 7 major U.S. cities who work to expand Trevor's program, communications and fundraising efforts to new geographic areas. To find a Trevor Ambassador group near you, visit TheTrevorProject.org/pages/connect-with-trevor.
