Young Leaders Convene in L.A.

On the weekend of March 7th, 20 outstanding young people, three generous corporate sponsors, and 12 incredible trainers came together for one inspiring Trevor Youth Advisory Council Conference. The annual meeting is a time for Trevor’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) to learn about the organization, build bonds with each other, and create goals for the year.

This new Trevor YAC group has members spanning in age from 16 to 24, who come from all over the country. During the course of this coming year, these deeply passionate youth will bring life-affirming resources to their communities and help raise awareness about Trevor’s unique, life-saving services.

At The Hotel Palomar in Los Angeles, YAC members were trained by staff and former YAC members in a wide range of topics, like LGBTQ competency, how to share their stories, and how to respond safely to a young person in crisis. YouTube celebrity and Trevor supporter, Tyler Oakley also stopped by to meet the YAC, and joined them for lunch!

“We are so excited to welcome these forward-thinking young people to The Trevor Project,” said Executive Director & CEO, Abbe Land. “Each one will help inspire and create our future as we strive to meet young people on their level, when they need us most.”

Trevor also extends a huge thank you to Toyota Financial Services for sponsoring the conference; to Hotel Palomar Los Angeles – Westwood, A Kimpton Hotel for hosting the meeting and housing each member; and to Orbitz for funding the flights for our new YAC group.
