Employment Non-Discrimination Law Within Reach

No one should have to choose between success and being their true self. However, up to 43% of LGB people and 90% of transgender people have reported experiencing employment discrimination in the U.S. While this may be shocking – nine out of ten Americans think it’s illegal to fire someone because of their sexual orientation or gender identity – it’s a sad and unjust truth. Most states don’t provide employment protections to LGBTQ workers.

For the first time in history, the Senate has passed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) (S. 815 / H.R. 1755), an important bill that will make it illegal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace. At Trevor, we know how important this can be for LGBTQ young people hoping to build a future. The passage of ENDA will help give our youth the peace of mind they need to begin building a career without fear, and sends the message that they are valued because of their work, not judged for who they love or what their gender identity is.
