Kevin Potter is a Director in the National Multistate Credits & Incentives practice of Deloitte Tax LLP where he is the National Leader for the Employment Incentives Practice. Kevin has over eighteen years of experience providing tax and consulting services to clients in the Energy, Retail, Financial Services, and Aerospace & Defense industries.
Throughout his career, Kevin has focused on consulting on the state income, franchise, and transaction tax issues associated with corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and post-merger integrations. Kevin is currently assisting large and mid-size corporations in the management of statutory credit and negotiated incentive reviews and other similar projects.
As a prominent voice in the area of credits and incentives, Kevin is a member of Thomson Reuters’ Editorial Board for the Journal of Multistate Taxation and Incentives. Kevin has also written numerous articles on credits and incentives and is a frequent speaker at industry events on topics such as employment incentives, leveraging technology to improve hiring credits, and veteran hiring credits. Kevin is also a regularly featured columnist in the Journal of Multistate Taxation and Incentives where he publishes a column entitled Credits & Incentives Talk.
In addition to his client service roles, Kevin is a leading voice for diversity and inclusion in the financial services industry. He currently serves as the National Executive Sponsor for Deloitte’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) employee resource group, as well as the Regional Executive Sponsor for Deloitte’s Armed Forces employee resource group. Until January 2016, Kevin served on the Board of Directors and as the Treasurer of OPEN Finance, a network of financial service companies focused on advancing workplace policies to drive forward LGBT equality and diversity in the financial services sector. Kevin is also a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Hudson County, N.J.
Kevin is a graduate of Texas A&M University where he earned a BBA in Accounting. Kevin is also a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma and holds active CPA licenses in Texas and New York. Kevin is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas State Society of CPAs.
