Rita Ora and VICELAND’S ‘My House’ Cast to Perform at the Trevor Project’s TrevorLIVE New York Gala on June 11

Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy Set to Host; Lena Waithe, Greg Berlanti, and McKinsey & Company’s Dominic Barton to be Honored

NEW YORK CITYSinger-songwriter Rita Ora and the cast of VICELAND’s MY HOUSE are set to perform at The Trevor Project’s TrevorLIVE New York gala on June 11 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The organization, which provides a suite of crisis intervention and suicide prevention programs particularly for LGBTQ youth, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Ora is an international pop singer with multiple #1 singles, and 12 singles in the top 10. Her debut album premiered at #1 on the UK charts and was certified platinum. Recently she hit a major milestone, tying the record for the most Top 10 Singles for a solo female in the UK. Her debut U.S. album is due out this year, with 3 of its singles already platinum and in the UK Top 5. She released her latest single “Girls” in May of this year, with Rolling Stone declaring “Rita Ora stakes her claim for song of the summer with ‘Girls,’ a catchy squad anthem.” Rita, who is signed to Atlantic Records, recently wrapped up her sold-out headline tour and is set to take the stage at various music festivals this summer. Her film credits include her role in the upcoming Detective Pikachu, the globally successful Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, of which the final installment was released by Universal Pictures earlier this year, Fast and Furious, Southpaw, and Wonderwall.

“I am honored to be performing at this year’s TrevorLIVE Gala. The Trevor Project’s mission is very close to my heart,” said Ora. “It is vital that LBGTQ+ youth have the resources and support that The Trevor Project provides. I am thrilled to perform and be a part of such a great night supporting such wonderful work!”

TrevorLIVE New York will kick off with a special performance by the eclectic voguing cast of VICELAND’s MY HOUSE. The show is an insider’s guide to New York City’s hyper-competitive underground queer ballroom scene. It follows the lives of six inimitable and fierce voguers — Tati 007, Alex Mugler, Jelani Mizrahi, Lolita Balenciaga and Relish Milan — while the ultimate expert, Precious Ebony, a bold and brazen commentator on the scene, lays out the rules, the rivalries, and all the drama in between.

“I can say that we all came to the ballroom community to find a place where we could express ourselves freely and be loved for the proud LGBTQ+ people that we are,” said VICELAND’s “My House” cast member and noted ballroom scene commentator, Precious Ebony. “We are all so very honored to perform for The Trevor Project’s gala to continue to support our community and their life-saving message of love and acceptance for LGBTQ+ youth. I hope everyone is ready for a show-stopping, jaw-dropping, edge-of-your-seat performance.”

“We’re thrilled to have Rita Ora and the ‘My House’ cast support The Trevor Project’s mission of saving LGBTQ young lives,” said Amit Paley, CEO and Executive Director of The Trevor Project. “We’re excited to have performers from different parts of the LGBTQ community join us for an incredible night at TrevorLIVE NY.”

It was previously announced that U.S. Olympic medalists Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy will serve as the event’s emcees, while Lena Waithe and Greg Berlanti will be honored with the Hero Award, and McKinsey & Company’s Dominic Barton will receive the 20/20 Visionary Award. Additional names for TrevorLIVE New York will be announced in the coming weeks.

Olympic Medalists Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy Tapped to Host the Trevor Project’s TrevorLIVE New York Gala

The Organization, Which is Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, Will Honor Lena Waithe, Greg Berlanti, and McKinsey & Company’s Dominic Barton on June 11 in New York City

U.S. Olympic medalists Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy will host the TrevorLIVE New York gala on Monday, June 11 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, The Trevor Project announced exclusively on ABC’s “Nightline.” The organization, which provides a suite of crisis intervention and suicide prevention programs particularly for LGBTQ youth, recently announced that Lena Waithe, Greg Berlanti, and McKinsey & Company’s Dominic Barton will receive honors at this year’s gala.

Figure skater Rippon and Kenworthy became the first openly gay American males to qualify for the Winter Olympics with their selection to the 2018 U.S. team for the PyeongChang Games. Rippon won a bronze medal as part of Team USA’s figure skating team event. Rippon’s performance both on and off the ice made him a fan favorite of the Games and gave him a global platform to advocate for LGBTQ issues.  His candid remarks and sense of self were an inspiration to young and old alike. Rippon is currently vying for the Mirror Ball trophy on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars Athletes” and touring with Stars on Ice.

“I’m really looking forward to hosting this event and recognizing Lena, Greg and Dominic for their support of The Trevor Project and contributions to the LGBTQ community,” said Rippon. “My journey over the past few months has been amazing and I never thought that being true to oneself would be so celebrated. It is both humbling and empowering and I plan to use my voice to support the causes I believe in and help others through their journeys. The Trevor Project has been assisting and supporting LGBTQ youth for more than 20 years and I am proud to be representing them at TrevorLIVE.”

At the 2014 Winter Olympics, Kenworthy became the first athlete to ever win an Olympic silver medal in slopestyle skiing. In 2015, Kenworthy also made history when he took the brave and bold step of coming out on the cover of ESPN Magazine, making him the first and only action sports / X Games athlete to go public, while being ranked No. 1 in the world. Kenworthy, a Sochi Silver Medalist, five-time X Games medalist and seven-time world champion, is the most versatile and best-known freeskier on the planet.

“It is an absolute honor to host the TrevorLIVE gala and to commemorate The Trevor Project’s impact on LGBTQ youth for two decades,” said Kenworthy. “I am inspired by the work of this year’s honorees and remain committed to supporting the organization’s work in the community.”

“Adam and Gus are star athletes and both use their platforms to encourage and support LGBTQ young people around the world,” said Amit Paley, CEO and Executive Director of The Trevor Project. “It’s an honor to have them support our mission of saving LGBTQ young lives.”

Previous TrevorLIVE honorees and performers include Tom Ford, Kristin Chenoweth, Imagine Dragons, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Shoshana Bean, Edie Windsor, Ingrid Nilsen, Tyler Oakley, Arianna Huffington, Sir Ian McKellan, Jazz Jennings, Queen Latifah, Amy Poehler, Darren Criss, Mary J. Blige, Cheyenne Jackson, and others.

Lena Waithe, Greg Berlanti, and Mckinsey & Company’s Dominic Barton to Be Honored at the Trevor Project’s TrevorLIVE New York Gala

The Organization, Which is Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, Will Award its Honorees at a Star-Studded Gala on June 11 in New York City

NEW YORK CITY (April 24, 2018) – The Trevor Project today announced that Emmy Award-winning screenwriter, producer, and actor Lena Waithe; Writers Guild of America Award, Directors Guild of America Award, and Golden Globe Award-nominated writer, director, and producer Greg Berlanti; and Managing Partner of global consulting firm McKinsey & Company Dominic Barton will all be honored at The Trevor Project’s TrevorLIVE New York gala for their commitment to supporting The Trevor Project’s mission to provide crisis intervention services and end suicide among gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning young people. TrevorLIVE New York, the organization’s annual star-studded signature fundraiser billed as “an irreverent evening of music and comedy,” will be held on Monday, June 11 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

Waithe, who will be honored with the Hero Award, made history in 2017 by accepting the Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for her work on “Master of None,” becoming the first woman of color to do so. The episode, which won her the accolade, chronicles her coming out to herself and her family, through the lens of the Thanksgiving holiday over three decades. Directed by Melina Matsoukas, the episode is largely based on Waithe’s personal experience.  As a writer, Waithe is currently serving as creator and executive producer of “The Chi,” a relevant, timely, and distinctive coming-of-age story that follows six interrelated characters in Chicago’s South Side that finished its first season to rave reviews and was quickly picked up for a second season. In addition to “The Chi,” TBS recently picked up her pilot, “Twenties,” for which she will serve as writer and producer. The project is loosely based on her turbulent twenties and how she navigated her first decade of Los Angeles living.  As an actor, she was most recently seen on the big screen in Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One,” which was released by Warner Bros to great success.

“It’s one of the greatest honors of my life to be honored by such a phenomenal organization like The Trevor Project,” said Waithe. “The work that they do is invaluable to the community, and I hope to continue to do work that is worthy of this honor.”

Greg Berlanti, who will also receive the Hero Award, is best known for his work as executive producer and co-creator of The CW’s “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Supergirl,” collectively referred to as The CW’s Arrowverse. Additionally, Berlanti serves as executive producer on The CW’s “Riverdale,” “Black Lightning,” and NBC’s “Blindspot.” Berlanti made his film directorial debut in 2000 with “The Broken Hearts Club” and his most recent directorial project is the critically acclaimed “Love, Simon,” an adaptation of the acclaimed YA novel “Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda.”

“I am honored to accept the Hero Award at TrevorLIVE New York this year,” said Berlanti. “I have immense admiration for The Trevor Project and their ongoing efforts to provide a safe place for the LGBTQ community and youth in need.”

Barton, who will receive the 20/20 Visionary Award, is a top management thinker and outspoken advocate for empowering talent to create long-term economic and social value. As the Global Managing Partner of consulting firm McKinsey & Company, he seeks to empower young, ambitious individuals to make a difference in business and society, working with McKinsey’s thousands of clients around the world across the private, public, and social sectors. The company’s core mission revolves around building an inclusive environment for exceptional people regardless of background.

“At McKinsey, we strive every day to build a firm that is made stronger by its diversity,” said Barton. “I am personally honored and humbled to accept the 20/20 Visionary Award on behalf of McKinsey and am deeply inspired by the life-saving work that The Trevor Project is doing for LGBTQ youth and for the broader community.”

“Lena Waithe, Greg Berlanti, and Dominic Barton have each made an unprecedented positive impact on the lives of young LGBTQ people in the last year,” said Amit Paley, CEO and Executive Director of The Trevor Project. “We’re incredibly excited to honor them for their commitment to fostering an accepting environment for LGBTQ youth through their innovative work and leadership at TrevorLIVE New York as we join together to continue The Trevor Project’s important and life-saving work.”

Previous TrevorLIVE honorees and performers include Tom Ford, Kristin Chenoweth, Imagine Dragons, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Shoshana Bean, Edie Windsor, Ingrid Nilsen, Tyler Oakley, Arianna Huffington, Sir Ian McKellan, Jazz Jennings, Queen Latifah, Amy Poehler, Darren Criss, Mary J.
