YOUR USE OF THE TREVORCHAT, TREVORTEXT, OR TREVOR LIFELINE SERVICE (INDIVIDUALLY AND COLLECTIVELY, THE “SERVICE”) IS BOUND BY THE FOLLOWING TERMS AND CONDITIONS. Please read this text before using the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the terms and conditions below. If you do not agree to the terms and conditions, you may not use the Service.
Nature of the Service
YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE DOES NOT CONSTITUTE MENTAL HEATHCARE OR TREATMENT AND DOES NOT CONSITUTE A THERAPIST-PATIENT RELATIONSHIP. THE SERVICE IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR PROFESSIONAL HEALTH CARE. IF YOU BELIEVE YOU ARE EXPERIENCING A MEDICAL EMERGENCY, CALL YOUR DOCTOR OR 911 IMMEDIATELY.
This Service is not intended for anyone in need of immediate medical services or in the case of a life-threatening emergency. For immediate medical services or if you have a life-threatening emergency, please call 911, or visit the nearest hospital emergency room.
The Trevor Project (“we”, “our”, or “us”) and its employees, volunteers, and agents are not responsible for any decisions, or results of the decisions that you make while, as a result of, or after participating in the Service. This includes whether you choose to seek or not seek professional care, or to modify or terminate specific treatment that you are currently receiving based on the information provided by the Service. You assume all risk for use of the Service.
Rules of Use
Use of the Service is only available and limited to individuals between the ages 13 to 24. We ask you to abide by the following rules:
- Do not use this Service if you are in need of immediate medical services.
- Do not prank chat or call us. This Service is available to young people who might be in crisis and pranks take time away from your peers who may really need help.
- Do not embed material in chat or text messages using HTML, whether images, sound or video.
- Do not send links in chat or text messages to any other websites.
- Do not impersonate another person, whether famous or otherwise.
Please do not start more than one chat or text session at a time. This will increase the time before a counselor can talk with you. Please remember to conclude and/or close chat or text conversation when it ends and make sure you are in a private area if needed.
Privacy and Security
Calls, Chats and Texts to The Trevor Project’s crisis services may be monitored for training and quality assurance purposes. We take your privacy and security very seriously. We will not share or disclose your personally identifiable information (defined herein as your name, user name and street address); however, we do reserve the right to disclose any information to the authorities at our sole discretion and as required or permitted by law, as well as to authorize the engagement of law enforcement to initiate a welfare check.
In addition, we collect and store information, including the content of conversations occurring on the Service, which we use to create, or permit a third party researcher subject to a strict confidentiality agreement to create, aggregate information, that does not identify individual users, for the purpose of promoting suicide prevention research and the advancement of crisis intervention. We may share this aggregated, non-personally identifiable information and any content of conversations occurring on the Service, with our partners, researchers or third-parties for this purpose. Individual users will not be linked or identified by sharing this aggregate information.
Despite these procedures, the Internet is an imperfectly secure environment, and The Trevor Project cannot guarantee protection from intruders or interceptors. You agree to use this Service and submit information at your own risk. You agree that The Trevor Project has no liability regarding unauthorized access to the Service.
Use of the Service is provided by The Trevor Project on an “as is” basis and solely at our discretion. Conversations may be terminated immediately if, in the sole opinion of The Trevor Project, any rules are violated. Accounts may be blocked and removed permanently for any reason at The Trevor Project’s sole discretion. In addition, The Trevor Project may restrict the frequency of conversations.
You understand and acknowledge that The Trevor Project expressly disclaims any and all liability resulting from the termination of conversations or blocking or removal of accounts and expressly disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied. The Trevor Project makes no warranty that the Service will meet your requirements or expectations, or will be uninterrupted, timely, confidential, secure or error-free. The Service is provided AS-IS. The Trevor Project has no obligation to provide you with access to any information from your account or chat history with the Service.
The Trevor Project and its employees, volunteers, and agents have no liability for actions or omissions taken by you or a third party. By using the Service you permanently agree to indemnify and release The Trevor Project from all suits, claims, and actions pertaining to your experiences with the Service or information provided through the Service by a third party.
