Immediately following the tragedy in Orlando, The Trevor Project saw a 70% increase in calls, chats, and texts. As young people feel isolated and unsafe during times of senseless violence, Trevor’s Ambassadors have been champions of our fight protect LGBTQ futures. Through Night Out for Trevor events, Ambassadors have raised awareness and brought supporters together across America, from Miami to San Diego.
On September 24 from 5-9 PM at Kimpton Hotel Solamar in downtown San Diego, Ambassadors will host The Orange Party, with the theme “Protecting the bright future of youth.” This fundraising event, auction, and dinner will feature Grammy nominated singer Deborah Cox and performer Novien Yarber, honoring San Diego transgender police officer and Community Impact Awardee, Christine Garcia.
“Christine Garcia has bravely gone above and beyond the call of duty to be supportive of LGBTQ+ youth while continually inspiring fellow officers and our community to do the same,” says Josh Coyne, Co-Chair of the San Diego Ambassadors for The Trevor Project.” Christine will be in attendance to receive her award from Sgt. Daniel Meyer, LGBT Liaison with the San Diego Police Department.
