Annual Report FY2014
Over 200 influential guests attended the TrevorLIVE Kickoff Event in early Spring, hosted by Eventi – a Kimpton hotel in New York City. The evening featured singer Jeremy Jordan, as well as Special Guest Director Adam Shankman. Guests enjoyed a hosted bar by Proximo spirits and delicious Garrett popcorn.
In Los Angeles, the TrevorLIVE Kickoff Party was hosted by Acabar, where over 200 prominent attendees came together to celebrate The Trevor Project, and generate excitement for the upcoming TrevorLIVE event. During the evening, Jessica Sanchez sang two amazing songs and the evening culminated in an empowering speech by host Adam Shankman. Guests were served Proximo spirits and Garrett popcorn.
THE BIG EVENTS
On June 16, 2014 TrevorLIVE New York honored three visionaries who have made a difference in the LGBT community: Arianna Huffington (Trevor Hero Award), Goldman Sachs(Trevor 20/20 Visionary Award), and YouTube sensation Tyler Oakley (Trevor Youth Innovator Award, presented by Wells Fargo). The fantastic show, directed by Adam Shankman, was hosted by Wanda Sykes at the Marriott Marquis.
TrevorLIVE Los Angeles captivated more than 1,200 Trevor supporters at the Hollywood Palladium on December 8, 2013. Special Guest Director Adam Shankman created a magical evening hosted by long-time Trevor supporter and award-winning comedian Kathy Griffin. The event proudly honored Golden Globe® Award and Emmy Award-winning actress Jane Lynch (Trevor Hero), Toyota (Trevor 20/20 Visionary Award), and young Mormon LGBTQ advocate, Adam White (Trevor Youth Innovator).
During Los Angeles’ red carpet pre-show, presented by Toyota Financial Services, Shira Lazar of WhatsTrending.com and Tyler Oakley interviewed celebrity guests. More than 35,400 people watched the TrevorLIVE red carpet livestream, and the impact of this evening became very clear once #TrevorLIVE became a trending topic on Twitter!
On October 23, 2014 Trevor NextGen New York hosted its 4th annual Fall Fête event at the Angel Orensanz Center. The guest list was filled with exciting new faces, including Laverne Cox, Danielle Brooks, Dascha Polanco, and Uzo Aduba from the hit show “Orange is the New Black.” Stellar performances from Betty Who, Uzo Aduba, and Adrienne Warrenhelped make the event more memorable than ever. Guests also enjoyed a silent auction, raffle, small bites, and a hosted bar. All proceeds helped support The Trevor Project’s mission.
NextGen Los Angeles planned a Valentine’s Day Soiree at Bugatta in Hollywood, CA, complete with white cabanas, candle light, and cozy fires. Over 200 guests mingled at the lounge-style event, where passed hors d’oeuvres and Sprinkles Cupcakes paired with libations hosted by hosted by Absolut, Boodles Gin, Dobel Tequila, and Kraken Rum. Proceeds from this event benefitted The Trevor Project’s mission.
Tyler Oakley’s Generous Birthday Gift
When YouTube celebrity and Youth Innovator Award winner Tyler Oakley’s birthday arrived in March, he opted out of traditional presents. Instead, he chose to create a fundraiserfor The Trevor Project. “It’s necessary for me to use my birthday to help young LGBTQ people across the nation strive to celebrate many more birthdays – it’s as simple as that,” Tyler said. In the following months, fans and supporters from all over the country donated, quickly surpassing Tyler’s initial goal of $150,000 and bringing the final gross total to $525,704! Thank you again Tyler, for your incredible support!
On April 5, 2014, Trevor NextGen New York held their annual Spring Fling at The Highline Hotel, co-hosted by Andrew Kilbourn and Caitlin McLaughlin. The elegant event was inspired by the classic seminary turned hotel venue, and featured performances by The Low Down Stompers and Kelly Bales, a jazz trio. Guests were later treated to a rousing performance by the Middle Church Collegiate Choir, an ensemble comprised of LGBT singers, performers and musicians. The event was attended by 500 of New York’s LGBT community and raised over $74,000, contributing to a total of over $500,000 raised for The Trevor Project in the 4.5 years since NextGen New York’s inception.
Trevor LA Prom
Trevor Prom, hosted by Trevor NextGen Los Angeles on May 31, 2014, took place on the rooftop of the Petersen Automotive Museum and was attended by outstanding supporters such as Kelly Osbourne, Shangela (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Eli Lieb (Young Love), and For the Record starring Rumer Willis. Hosted by Jessica and Hunter, attendees enjoyed a hosted bar, raffle prizes, and a chance to be Kelly Osbourne’s date for the night! Ticket sales and raffle purchases went toward Trevor’s life-saving mission. This incredible night could not have taken place without our amazing presenting sponsors, Freeway Insurance, Simmons Murphy Design, and Time Warner.
A Night of Out for Trevor: Palm Springs
In Palm Springs on June 21, 2014, “A Night Out for Trevor” featured a hosted cocktail reception, family-style dinner, and captivating performance by Lynda Kay and her outstanding band. Throughout the glamorous evening, guests raised over $45,000 to support The Trevor Project’s programs and resources. Special thanks to Kelly Kidd, Event Director for the Escena Golf Club, and JD Cole, Director of Catering for the Saguaro, for making the night especially successful.
