November 2, 2026 – Ahead of the United States midterm elections on November 3, 2026, The Trevor Project’s CEO, Jaymes Black, released the following statement:

“The midterm elections have a profound impact on LGBTQ+ youth across the U.S. that goes far beyond individual races, candidates, or ballot initiatives. The anti-LGBTQ+ political rhetoric, and in particular, the wave of anti-transgender messages, cause real and lasting harm. 90% of LGBTQ+ young people said recent anti-LGBTQ+ politics made them feel stressed or anxious, and nearly 8 in 10 said it made them feel unsafe. It’s critical for politicians and voters alike to understand that the vitriol doesn’t end after election day; it continues taking a measurable toll on young people’s health and safety.

“For any LGBTQ+ young person feeling worried about the elections, you are not alone. The noise of this moment is loud, and much of it is pointed directly at you. But we are fighting for you every day and no level of noise will stop that. Please remember that there are more people in your corner than headlines might suggest. You are seen. You are worthy. You matter.

“For generations, our community has overcome seemingly impossible obstacles, achieved landmark legal and legislative victories, and we’ve continued to thrive. That’s because we have each other. And no election can ever change that.
