You may be feeling overwhelmed. Exhausted. Upset. Depressed. Anxious. You may feel like you are the only person feeling this way.

You are not alone — many LGBTQ+ young people have felt similar feelings and decided to reach out to The Trevor Project for support. In fact, last year alone the Trevor Project served over 500,000 contacts.

As the world’s leading suicide prevention and mental health organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, & questioning (LGBTQ+) young people, The Trevor Project believes everyone deserves someone to talk to, and no problem is too small. Our services are free and 100% confidential — all counselors are caring members of our Trevor community who are trained in crisis intervention and specialize in helping LGBTQ+ young people. No matter who you are or what you’re going through, The Trevor Project is here.

As cited in our 2024 National Survey, among all LGBTQ+ young people, 84% wanted mental health care. Yet only 50% of LGBTQ+ young people who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it. Our mission is to ensure LGBTQ+ young people have someone to reach out to, 24/7.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a deep breath. We know life gets challenging. But remember: you always have an affirming community that cares about you, waiting to support you when and if you decide to reach out for help.

If this is your first time reaching out to The Trevor Project, know that we’ve been serving young people for over 25 years and our job is to make this easy and affirming.

Here are some ways to get in touch with The Trevor Project, 24/7:

  • Text START to 678-678. You’ll be connected to a trained counselor and be able to message them privately.
  • If you want to speak to a counselor directly and confidentially over the phone, you can call 866-488-7386.
  • Or, if you want to chat online, visit TrevorChat.org

You also can Dial 988. This new three-digit number is an easy-to-remember way for people in the U.S. to connect to mental health services, including The Trevor Project’s LGBTQ+ mental health services.

The Trevor Project  offers more than just mental health services. You can also find community on TrevorSpace which  is the world’s largest social network for LGBTQ+ young people, and is always available.

If you’re looking for affirming content, check out our roundtable with Daniel Radcliffe, hear from affirming parents in our Sharing Space episode or our award-winning docuseries Learn with Love.

Remember, the Trevor Project is here for you 24/7, 365 days a year, whether you’re in crisis or just need someone to talk to.
