WORD OF THE DAY

Gender-affirming surgery
[ jen-der-uh-furm-ing sur-juh-ree ]

An operation through which someone undergoes surgical modifications to help them alleviate dysphoria and better reflect their true gender. Two common examples of gender-affirming surgery are described as "top surgery" or "bottom surgery." It’s important to note that not all people who identify as transgender choose to, or have access to, surgeries or other forms of medical transition, and whether or not someone has sought surgery in their transition is no one else’s business.
