WORD OF THE DAY

Drag (and the difference between drag and being trans)
[ drag ]

The art of using gender as a performative expression. This may involve makeup, costumes, wigs, props, lip sync shows, photography, and dance.

While some transgender and gender-expansive people also perform in drag, the two are different in the sense that drag is a performance of gender and being trans is a gender identity. There was a time when people who identify as transgender were called “Drag Queens/Kings” and the two have since been affirmed as separate.
